Proudly making
change in the world
A message from Roy:
As a proud gay latino first generation Mexican-American immigrant I've been always aware of the importance of diversity, inclusion and representation not only in the work space but also in the world.
As a creative director I've had the opportunity to make tangible change within the companies I have worked for and also within the industries I've been a part of.
One of the most impactful examples of change is the substitution of binary title winners for gender inclusive winners, ensuring non-binary performers were not only included but also celebrated.
After presenting this proposal and designing the systems in place to make this a smooth and successful transition, StarQuest Dance Competition was the first company to establish the change that very soon the rest of the industry started following.
Another simple yet important example of effective D&I change proposed by me, and planned and executed successfully with the collaboration of my extremely talented and amazing team, is the implementation of personal pronouns usage in signature lines, name tags, and other self-identifiable visual items. This exciting change allowed team members and clients to see themselves included and respected in their own skin and represented in their own personal identification terms.
Change is important, change is possible, and change, specially positive change, is in our hands.
